The number of varieties of fruits and vegetables on our planet  declined by 93 percent in the 20th century alone. For example; lettuce varieties was reduced from 497 to only 36; 288 different types of beets were reduced to 17 types. It is uncertain that what we will eat in the future will be considered as food if this trend continues. These consequences can be traced back to the concept of “economic growth” more often related to large corporations that are colonising and technologizing our food for profit. Farmers are victims of these corporations and are tricked to buy seeds that are genetically modified ,pesticides and fertilisers that contain toxic chemicals such as fossil fuel, Nitrogen, Atrazine, DDT, BHC and heavy metals. after the world war 2 humans had developed war chemicals that chemical companies bought and rebranded as pesticide. The chemical companies promote the false idea that we need the chemicals in order to grow food, but the reason that we have been losing the food is because of the manipulations of the seeds genes and the very same chemicals that kill critical microorganisms in the soil. The chemicals are only a temporary fix that eventually leads to Soil degradation, The soil becomes dependent on these chemicals and builds up tolerance so it needs more now then it did in 1980s. The poisons used on conventional farms  ends up in the water cycle, and as a result they end up in places like the fields where organic farming takes place, where the cows gnaw the grass, where the fish swim the sea and is streaming in our bodies.  I don't think the solution to this problem is technical or financial at this moment but rather a shift in conciseness from (ego)logical to (eco)logical mindset, I think we need to reconnection to our nature, because technology and money will not serve us until we have changed our attitude towards nature and our role as human beings in it. We are inseparable from nature therefore what we do to it  we do to ourselves. It can be said that humans are on a path of disconnection from our nature, that development is called; Transhumanism its the belief or theory that humanity can evolve beyond physical and spiritual needs, with the help of science and technology. The reson why we are harming the earth is becuse of lack of connection to it. If we lose our food as a result of manipulating and controlling it, then this (eco)nomic growth is useless. its not until we see the (eco)nomic growth in nature, in things we depend on like the (eco)system, in bio diversity, in our seeds and soil. The two words (economy) and (ecology) comes from the same root (eco): (Oikos) meaning home or (Earth). (nomy) / (logy): (logos) meaning (knowledge): (Earth-knowledge). I think we need to take a closer look at the deeper meaning of this word if we want to eat real food in the coming years.
